With so much technology and cool gadgets around today it can be hard to get children and teenagers off the lounge and out doing physical activity. We are no longer living in a time where it was second nature to head outdoors and run around for a while and burn off some energy. However with high numbers in overweight children there is a great need to encourage children and teenagers to take part in some form of sport and exercise. Being healthy and fit are great benefits of taking part in team sports, but there is a lot more to gain than that.
Learning and growing.
Being part of a team is great for character building. It teaches kids about learning to take turns and work together with others kids to achieve the same goal. They learn that putting in their best effort can bring forth a positive outcome and improve their performance. Not only is this great for building their social skills, it lays excellent ground work for later on when they may be required to be part of a team in their chosen career. Team sports teach children to become ‘good sports’. Showing them to accept when a defeat happens and to congratulate the other team on winning. When kids learn to accept their disappointments gracefully and do not use the age old sayings “it’s not fair” or “you cheated” because they are angry, then other children are more likely to want to play with them outside of sport. Children also gain a better understanding of following direction by playing team sports as they are guided by a coach and a referee they learn to realise the benefit of taking advice to play better. Playing indoor sport on a team can increase a child’s confidence considerably; they will feel capable of achieving goals which will in turn create a happier, healthier child.
Indoor health.
There is no doubt about the fact that playing sport is a fun way to exercise and keep your body healthy. When children are encouraged to play sport at a young age they are more inclined to make it a regular part of their lives as they get older. Taking part in a physically active lifestyle can reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes and obesity. The fantastic thing about playing indoor sports is it means that play will go on, rain, hail or shine. There is no need to be concerned about getting sunburn and there is no requirement to wear hats and sunscreen because sport is played indoors. Thus making organisation for mum and dad a lot easier too!
Indoor cricket, netball and soccer are just a few of the sports available for everyone young and old to enjoy. All that is needed is a good attitude and energy to burn.
Get Together and Play Together
Indoor Sports is not only a computer game. Although it is enjoyable to sit around and have fun, a far more energetic and healthier game can be played at an indoor sports club, but leave the joysticks behind and get on your feet. This is an outline of some indoor games.
